Doxology — published in The Windhover, Vol. 25.2
Doxology was sketched between reflective moments while in the Colorado backcountry. It was later refined and published as a poem in the Windhover Literary Journal Vol 25.2.
There's a presence in the silent doxology of dusk.
A radiance in the wind
of western evanescence. A slow light,
fading left, casting mountains
in alpenglow.
At the end of the day it's just You and me,
drifting in the wake of soft burnished sky,
enveloped in a language of Logos and Rhema.
We let our words find their length.
We let them echo and echo again.
There is no need for eloquence here, no need
for postures of pretense or polished words.
It’s true, there’s a time for formalities,
but not here.
Not with you.
Of course, I won't remember most of these conversations,
yet I carry them with me none the less.
They shape me and form me, renewing me
again and again, washing me
the way twilight gentles down in weightless cause.
Each day drags the dregs of a common
pearl shine. Ordinary and as extravagant
as language falling out of our words.
As imperceptible as meaning emerging
from a landscape loud with light.
Somewhere Someone is saying something.
Somewhere Someone is listening.
